Before a check-up, check-out the doctor!
When it relates to any form of health care, women deserve to know their doctor's
history. The following websites or links allow you to look up information related
to doctors online. The links that are provided will bring up websites controlled by
others; therefore, we are not responsible for the content.
- Look for a Florida medical license
Visit this site first. This site shows basic identifying information to better
use the other sites.
- Look for a Florida doctor's "physician profile"
This site has information that includes board certifications, medical school attended,
residency training and out of state licenses. This site also has information regarding
any community activities, criminal convictions, and some discipline and malpractice
information. The doctors provide the information, so it maybe incomplete and it is not
verified by the state (except for the criminal background)
- Look for a Florida doctor's paid malpractice claims
This site offers good information regarding claims paid by malpractice insurance companies
for doctors and hospitals in Florida. Please search "all" counties. Also, simply search
for the doctor by his/her last name.
These sites are good. However, they do not provide any information related to pending claims
or actions against the doctor. The site also does not contain claims from other states, claims
the doctor paid off himself, disciplinary actions by the State of Florida or hospitals, and some
other situations.
Other websites to visit:
Palm Beach County - Look for open and ongoing lawsuits.
Search your local newspaper website archives for articles online.
Search for the doctor with any Internet search engine.
What if the doctor has no malpractice insurance? That practice is called "going bare." In
that case, the doctor usually places many of his/her assets in someone else's name. Florida
law protects many assets from legal judgments. Doctors can protect their homes, retirement
plans, annuities, life insurance and salaries. Anything more could be given patients who win
legal claims. Doctors go bare to try to avoid lawsuits and to try to protect their assets.
Anyone, (including doctors) can make mistakes, and when that happens, what happens to the
patient? The only way to protect a patient is if the doctor has the assets and the insurance
company. Please make yourself aware of medical problems you may suffer as a result of a medical
procedure or treatment. You may pay for it!
